General Description: An addressable data acquisition board capable of performing RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) functions on a single type 10 plug in module. Has a 4 digit address which allows independent operation and control of many different SC modules on a single communication path.
The unit has the capability of monitoring up to 12 status and 4 auxiliary discrete inputs. All inputs/outputs are either opto-isolated or Tranzorb protected.
The inputs are encoded as status changes or alarm conditions and sent as Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (DTMF), ASCII (RS-232) or Fast Frequency Shift Keying (FFSK) messages to a data collection point. Decisions made by the master or host, based on the data, can be sent back to the unit to control analog or discrete devices.
Provides communications in the DTMF and FFSK mode over voice grade media such as microwave, leased line, PSTN, radio and cellular phones. The ASCII (RS-232) capability interfaces with computers, spread spectrum and data radios.
Contains its own switching power supply which requires a regulated or unregulated dc input power of 8 to 30 Volts.
The twelve optoisolated status inputs accept voltages ranging from 5 to 30 Vdc (higher input voltages are available). Inputs are processed against parameters which can be programmed during module configuration procedures. These can be identified as normally on, normally off, alarm inputs and as having initial system start up conditions. Each input is capable of having a unique system address and can be combined with other inputs to create special events or alarms. Each input has definable recognition times and can be set up with event timers to create delays or momentary contacts. Two DPDT latching relays are provided and can be used as a control output while the other is being used for PTT and switched audio in radio and multi-point communications systems. The relays can each be assigned system addresses independent of the module address.
The module uses SC protocol of signal addressing. DTMF burst mode (50 msec on; 50 msec off) requires 900 msec per status message. The FFSK is MPT1327 Packet Radio Standard and requires 80 msec per message. ASCII RS-232 interface is "real time" at baud rates 19.2 k baud. RTS and CTS handshaking is available for use or may be ignored in not available from the host.
Configuration procedure may be accomplished via a dumb terminal or PC running a communication program connected to the RS-232 port. Configuration is menu driven and self contained. The terminal is the display and input console for the firmware. Once configured the terminal can also be used to poll and interrogate the module.
Whistle Port: These are control lines which provide CLOCK & RESET signal lines to set or reset specific control relays on external SC extension modules. The most commonly used is the SC 5452 (Plug in relay module with 8 DPDT relays and various configuration thereof including LED display).
